Service Description

In this class students will learn a clear method of painting a portrait and capturing a model’s likeness from life in oil. Topics discussed will include: Color theory and mixing Color zones of the human face Value relationships Observation of basic proportions Facial anatomy and planes of the head Design Paint application Procedural strategies These concepts will simplify the art of portrait painting into a practical yet flexible process with fast results. Class demonstrations and one-on-one critiques will be offered while the students employ the lessons in hands-on practice. All levels of experience are welcome to take this class. Supplies: Canvas pad or four canvas panels, size 12x16 in. Three synthetic and/or bristle filbert brushes - one each of small, medium, and large Palette - glass, wood or gray-toned disposable paper palettes (not white) Pigments (recommended brands: Utrecht and Winsor & Newton): Titanium White Yellow Ochre Cadmium Red Ivory Black Ultramarine Raw Umber Palette knife Paper towels Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits (recommended bottle size is 16.9 fl oz. container) Silicoil container The Loft is inside New School for the Arts 1216 Apache Blvd Tempe AZ 85281
